The Shreveport Times is located in the historic downtown area of Shreveport, Louisiana. Were looking for a reporter who can tell the diverse stories of our city while holding the government accountable. While this will include coverage of the city council, it is much more than a town hall beat.
The ideal candidate will be expected to create both quick turn-around, news of the day stories, as well as regular watch-dog enterprise pieces focusing on solutions reporting, community concerns and issues, as well as governmental accountability.
With a focus on digital reporting, this reporter should have a passion for telling stories both creatively and accurately, to engage and inform the audience.
This reporter should work toward becoming a leading voice in the community by developing relationships with city officials, key community members, organizations, neighborhood representatives and citizens. Report quickly, accurately, and provide context for our readers. Should be prepared to dig through public records, attend city and parish meetings, and interview community members. Should be comfortable using social media, and have an eye for digital storytelling.
We are looking for a passionate, motivated, focused and curious reporter willing to jump on trends but also engage audiences in the stories and issues behind them. We will expect breaking news, deep-dive profiles, trend pieces and enterprise. In turn, youll have the opportunity to hone your skills in a newsroom that is highly collaborative, supportive and fun.
