Position Description

As an Engineering Manager focused on Application Security for Rockwell Automation products, you will lead the integration of Rockwell Automation's security methodology and process into our software development practices. You will have the opportunity to lead an agile team supporting and developing industry-leading commercial software known for its innovation and usability.  With an emphasis on security, this position focuses on ensuring product software is developed employing best practices for secure design and coding.

This role will require you to actively engage with the test, quality assurance, product management, customer support, user experience, IT, and other shared service functions as well as other development organizations.

This position is a technology and team leader who will evolve software products and manage a team of software development and test engineers.  This role includes management oversight of software development projects from requirements through delivery, and continual advancement of our software engineering capability.  Integral to these functions is the responsibility for recruiting, developing, and motivating a highly performing software engineering team that is steeped in Lean/Agile principles and consistently delivers exceptional, high-quality products to our customers.

The ideal candidate will also actively seek knowledge of new developments in the software engineering, computer engineering, cyber security, and test automation fields

Essential Functions

  • Leads the integration of Rockwell Automation's security methodology and process into software development
  • Leads an agile development team focused on supporting secure code design and development best practices across the SW Engineering organization
  • Leads in the identifying and recommending software development capability improvements in the areas of security, software development practices, and development tools
  • Participates in the education of peers on security issues and best practices
  • Participates in the evolution of security standards for software development
  • Collaborates with security teams in other disciplines across the organization
  • Leads and provide guidance to teams during threat modeling exercises
  • Establishes a timeline and determines the resources needed to execute a design. Considers tradeoffs between requirements, speed, cost, and reliability in the choice of a design approach
  • Builds relationships and interacts with peers to ensure assigned tasks are prioritized appropriately
  • Recruits and promotes the career development of team personnel
  • Drives the high-performance culture of the team and develops a world-class engineering organization
  • Fosters a climate of diversity, inclusion, and teamwork, rewarding and recognizing performance that supports Rockwell Automation values
  • Thinks outside the box and is willing to research and explore new avenues to overcome obstacles by utilizing the latest technologies and standards
  • Clearly communicates and conveys technical concepts, both verbally and in writing

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Typically requires a minimum of eight years of experience leading software product development teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Typically requires a minimum of eight years of experience leading software product development teams
  • Understanding of software vulnerabilities and mitigations, static code analysis, composition analysis, fuzz testing, threat modeling, and associated tools
  • Demonstrated experience building and improving software security processes for a product or team
  • Stays current with latest security development practices and security technologies, trends, and threats
  • Familiarity with cryptography and security protocols
  • One or more security certifications
  • Direct experience applying security to web/cloud-based technologies
  • Experience in large, scalable distributed systems and/or SaaS solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and change processes
  • Conducts presentations of complex technical information/project activities
  • Proven decision-making skills that enable getting things done and shipping products
  • Strong leadership experience in Agile and Lean development practices
  • Direct experience with the Industrial Automation industry
  • Direct experience collaborating with local and global technical development teams
  • The base salary compensation range for this role in Colorado is $128,800- $161,600 USD Annual with an annual target bonus of 8% of base salary
