Reports to Water Treatment Superintendent. Position performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant. Work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the division Superintendent or supervisors, including more senior treatment operators. Operators are responsible for making decisions affecting plant processes in accordance with recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and general guidelines to assure plant operation meets all Federal and State quality standards. Selected candidate must acquire required certifications within defined deadline from date of hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operates treatment plants, treatment processes, and related equipment and facilities in accordance with established SOPs to meet all Federal and State quality standards; makes periodic inspections of all plant facilities to assure proper operating performance and for conditions which affect the security and continual operation; makes process changes as required and authorized to assure proper operation or results, including shut down, start-up, and/or adjustment to all aspects of treatment operations; maintains accurate records on all plant operations as required for operating reports; maintains a log of all operations, communications, and process changes; assists with the training and direction of subordinate operators; assists in the performance of equipment and facilities maintenance, including calibration of assigned equipment; provides assistance to the public as a guide for public plant tours; collects samples and performs process related laboratory analysis; operates computer with process control software; maintains and repairs the physical property of the plant(s); fills chemical hoppers. Will perform related duties as assigned.
