Machine Learning and AI

Posted: Oct 6, 2021

Weekly Hours: 40

Role Number: 200296243

Do you think computer vision, natural language processing and machine learning can change the world? Do you think advancements in these areas can help ensure the safety of children all over the world, while still protecting the privacy of our users? We truly believe it can! This role is responsible for building large-scale systems for data understanding and data acquisition tools, which feed into our efforts to build high-quality datasets that are at the heart of our child safety initiatives. Data defines how Apple features and products operate and the final user experience that will impact millions of our customers. This is an exciting time to join us: grow fast, and have an impact on your first day at Apple!

Key Qualifications

  • Capacity to design and lead infrastructure strategy and projects that guarantee a high level of service in a context of growing and evolving ML needs (storage, computation, networking, benchmarking...)
  • Good knowledge of cloud compute (AWS, etc.) and deployment (Kube, etc.)
  • Strong engineering skills in running compute-heavy tasks on distributed systems efficiently
  • Familiarity with ML tools and workflows a plus (Tensorflow, etc.)
  • Exceptional skill in languages like C++, Java and Python
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • You are passionate about building technology to help keep children safe

The role focuses on driving large-scale infrastructure projects focused on image, language and video data which are critical to OS features that rely upon machine learning. You will be running large-scale experiments that validate the algorithms on highly distributed systems. You will be working with internal and external partners to define processes to gather and store large amounts of data and create tools to generate derivative data and searchable indices, which are all critical to the workflows that ensure the success of the project. This requires the successful candidate to: - Recommend solutions around storage, networking, computation, and benchmarking that meet carefully identified project workflow needs. - Act as the key resource for all questions and advice related to ML infrastructure for the projects you are assigned (both systems and one-off issues) - Stay up-to-date on infrastructure solutions available internally and externally, as well as higher level systems developed by other ML groups across Apple, which are used to facilitate ML workflows - Develop software to implement distributed compute-heavy tasks required for project workflows

Education & Experience

M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or a related field (mathematics, physics or computer engineering), with a focus on computer vision and/or machine learning or comparable professional experience

Additional Requirements

  • Previous experience working in the domain of child safety is a plus
