USA TODAY is seeking a versatile, competitive reporter to cover breaking and trending news on Congress as part of our Politics NOW Team. Were looking for a journalist who can react to breaking developments and bring depth, perspective and excellent writing to the story.
This is a fast-paced job, which requires urgency to get news out quickly (and update as needed) while also adding context. This job requires excellent writing skills and strong news judgment. Source building and fact-checking skills are also essential.
The successful candidate will be a team player, capable of working collaboratively with editors and other reporters throughout our 30-person bureau as well as across the 100-plus sites in the USA TODAY Network.
Writing and posting breaking or in-the-moment news.
Optimizing your own content, paying special attention to headlines, SEO and fields visible social audience.
Spotting and writing high-interest items ahead of the competition and should be advanced in using Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and other social media channels to discover, source and distribute coverage.
Upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and credibility.
Advocating for innovative approaches to storytelling.
Bachelors degree in journalism or any other subject in a liberal arts field from an accredited institution
2+ years of experience as a digital journalist
Washington experience preferred
