This position contributes to the development and qualification of advanced lithium ion battery technology for portable power consumer applications. This position contributes to development of advanced lithium ion battery Algo/Firmware. You will work with multi-functional teams to qualify firmware, algorithm and battery management system (BMS) protocols using system requirements, user profiles and battery health monitoring estimation models to ensure highest level of customer experience. You will collaborate with BMS engineers to develop qualification protocols and explore new testing methods to improve productivity and efficiency.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in BMS algorithm and/or Firmware, mix of Development & QA
  • Strong Li-ion battery knowledge to understand impact of hardware behaviors on battery performance estimation
  • Strong coding skills, preferably in Python, C or C++
  • Knowledge of Li-Ion and related cell chemistries. Experience with detailed battery and cell modeling is a plus
  • Experienced in various test tools like battery testers, EIS and others to evaluate algorithm performance in Li-ion batteries
  • Excellent debugging skills to tackle challenging problems
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to use statistical tools and techniques to support proposed solutions
  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to articulate design issues and path to resolution both verbally and with documentation
  • Proven ability to work independently under high pressure and comfortable working in a dynamic environment


You will be a part of a team qualifying new class of algorithms, architectures and products to improve the utility of batteries. In this role, you will collaborate with FW, Algo and BMS engineers on defining qualification testing protocols. Use user profiles, battery model and system requirements to ensure highest level of customer experience. In this position, you will be expected to: -Use a combination of advanced electrical and chemical engineering and mathematics to validate the algorithms. develop simulation and physical tests to validate state of health of battery systems. -Review, analyze and report qualification data from Cupertino Labs. -Report anomalous qualification output and performing failure analysis to identify root cause for deviation. -Identify opportunities to streamline FW and Algo Qual.

Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
