As a Hardware Test Engineer for Rockwell Automation, you will have the opportunity to join a dynamic team developing the next generation of new automation control systems. In this position, you will be part of a team challenged with the critical role of validating the functionality and performance of the new Hardware and ensure our products meet all functional, regulatory and safety requirements. We are looking for someone who is team oriented and understands the value of using open and direct communication, honesty and respect as an aid to building strong working relationships. The ideal candidate will also seek knowledge of new technologies and trends in engineering and look to apply them to their job. You will be continually supported with mentorship and coaching. With success in this role, you will have the opportunity to take on additional scope and responsibility.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with product development Engineers to develop and document test requirements and execute hardware verification test plans with traceability to product requirements

    • EMC/EMI

    • Functional Safety (IEC 61508)

    • Safety Agencies (UL, ATEX, IECEX)

    • Environmental and Shock/Vibration

    • Board level functional testing

  • Design, build and maintain test systems used in HW qualification

  • Create test cases to understand behavior, performance and limitations of electronic hardware and hardware systems 

  • Create test plans that incorporate all test cases and have traceability to product functional or certification requirements.

  • Support HW design team as needed for building and board bring up of electronic hardware prototypes 

  • Develop ladder logic used for HW testing

  • Develop tools and processes to automate hardware testing.  Drive best practices across global hardware teams.

Basic Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar Engineering Technology degree

  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required.  We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in embedded hardware development and testing

  • Passion for problem solving and product validation to support new product development.

  • Hands on experience with hardware test equipment, including debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other equipment as necessary

  • Experience in developing test plans, and executing tests for hardware qualification, product certification and/or regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to read and interpret PCB schematics and perform basic digital and analog circuit analysis

  • Experience in electronics development in the area of embedded hardware.  Fundamental understanding of Digital and Analog/Mixed signal circuits, MCUs and FPGAs

  • Knowledge of industrial controls systems and their communications interfaces and protocols such as Ethernet/IP

  • Programming skills in Python or C/C++ or LabVIEW or other test automation tools/software.

  • Proven experience implementing Test Automation into HW qualification process

  • Experience with Rockwell Automation Software programming tools and programming skills in Ladder Logic

  • Experience with electronic hardware design tools such as Mentor Graphics or Cadence

  • Experience with product requirements tool, or product testing tool such as JAMA, RTC, qTest, etc.

  • Experience with system level validation and certification of embedded hardware. 

  • Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements such as UL508, IEC 61010, IEC 61000-6-4, CISPR 11

  • Experience testing and validating Functional Safety Products (IEC 61508)
