Camera Operations Lead

Newport Beach , California , United States

Posted: Nov 8, 2021

Role Number: 200311151

Apple is looking for a Camera Operations Lead to act as a multifaceted camera operator, DP, and project lead as part of a capture technology development team and a growing content production team. The Lead will use industry standard production practices to ensure capture quality and the artistic intent for each production is upheld to Apple's demanding technical and creative standards. In addition, the Lead will be responsible for smooth interoperability of shared resources and schedules between the two teams. In this role, you will work with both teams as a peer, a customer, and as a domain expert in cinematography. In between show prep and equipment office operations, the "normal day at the office" may include working on a multi-day shoot alongside a full production crew in a studio or stadium, then immediately flying to a dense jungle or arctic location, with only the most basic capture gear in a backpack and a director at their side. Each shoot is treated as a "zero downtime" and "failure-is-not-an-option" production, where minutes equal dollars and there's only one chance to capture amazing content. If this sounds familiar and exciting, this could be the opportunity you've been working towards!

Key Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience working in the following areas:
  • Working as a DP or camera operator in the cinematic, IMAX, live broadcast, or other professional video production industries
  • Hands-on experience working with high-end professional camera technologies and post production ecosystems (ex. Sony, ARRI, IMAX, RED, etc. camera systems)
  • Leading technical operations and/or camera department logistics.
  • Working directly with producers, directors, executives, 3rd party vendors, and technical personnel as a camera dept. lead owning or driving multiple productions (or productions units) from green light to release
  • Experience working in international, highly metropolitan, and underdeveloped locations as key camera dept. staff
  • This role requires 50%+ travel (both domestic & international)

The Camera Operations Lead will join a team of R&D and creative partners tasked with producing a wide variety of projects and genres for Apple. This includes the stewardship of new and existing technical & creative requirements throughout all phases of the production lifecycle. The Lead will be required to identify, understand, and offer solutions to capture issues and operational bottlenecks that have negative downstream effects on the product. The Lead will draw upon their professional cinema, television, documentary, live broadcast, and project management experience to innovate in non-traditional ways to keep production and capture technology initiatives moving forward. Additional duties will include aspects of equipment prep, equipment & shipping logistics, production scouting, new technology performance documentation, assisting in the post-production process, and hands-on involvement with R&D capture initiatives.
