Posted: Nov 8, 2021

Weekly Hours: 40

Role Number: 200310888

Would you like to join Apple's growing wireless silicon development team? Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) space vehicles transmit the power of a lightbulb, they are 13000 miles away, and are moving four kilometers per second. The received signals are commonly one hundred times weaker than cosmic microwave background radiation left over from the Big Bang and arrive next to interfering signals ten billion times stronger, just few MHz away. Our GNSS team is part of Apple's wireless SoC team. We are a vertically integrated engineering team spanning RF, mixed signal analog design, systems engineering, design verification, RTL design, firmware and software engineering, test, and validation. Our focus is on highly energy efficient and robust GNSS receiver design. We develop GNSS technology that touches hundreds of millions of lives, something we are passionate about. We'd like you to consider being a part of our team. As a GNSS Wireless Systems Engineer, you will be a key member of our highly innovative Wireless SoC design team, defining modem architectures, driving physical-layer algorithm designs, and developing digital signal processing schemes for novel ultra-low-power wireless applications.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in physical layer functionality for wireless systems in areas such as detection/acquisition, synchronization, parameter estimation & tracking, multipath detection, and mitigation, etc.
  • Familiarity with common analog/RF impairments encountered in GNSS and wireless systems.
  • Experience with lab bring-up of SoC designs reaching volume production desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in IC implementation and optimization; familiarity with HDL / RTL are desirable.
  • Proficiency with modeling in MATLAB and/or C/C++/System C required.
  • Experience of GNSS (GPS, Glonass, Galileo and/or Beidou) baseband signal processing is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Description

  • Cross-collaborate with other systems engineers, digital designers, and FW engineers to derive, simulate, implement, verify, and test physical layer features, to enable a variety of novel applications in the portable & wearable consumer electronics space.
  • Collaborate with analog/RF IC designers, characterizing, accounting, and calibrating for non-idealities of real-life GNSS/wireless devices.
  • Work with digital designers, deriving the signal processing model, directing the IC design, simulation, verification, implementation, tape-out and post-silicon bring-up.
  • Partition and define the interface between digital IC and firmware.
  • Work closely with FW engineers, deriving the signal processing model, developing baseband processing algorithms, chip bring-up / validation and system performance tuning.

    Education & Experience

  • MSc. with focus on digital communication, signal processing or geomatics desired. Ph.D. is preferred.
