Salary Range:  $85,587 to $104,000


Under the direction of the Finance Director, the Assessor has responsibility to direct and administer the valuation of real estate, personal property and motor vehicles; to perform field investigations and inspections required to properly evaluate property; to establish and prepare the Town Grand List. The work involves analysis and calculations; answering customer inquiries and directing the office staff. The Town Assessor is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and supervising the Assessment division within the Finance Department and is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.


Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting or related field and over five years of progressively responsible work experience in real and personal property appraisal including two years of municipal assessment and appraisal work, with one year of supervisory experience in a major assessment function, preferably in a union environment. Must have and maintain certification as a Certified Connecticut Municipal Assessor – CCMA-I and/or CCMA-II. Certification Connecticut Municipal Assessor - CCMA II is  preferable.  Valid driver’s license.
