Working collaboratively with the College’s IT Infrastructure team, implement and maintain the College’s Information Security systems by coordinating hands-on work, internal IT staff resources and specialized purchased services.  Safeguard the security and availability of the College’s information assets. Conduct electronic discovery and digital forensic investigations under the highest levels of confidentiality and neutrality.

Job Responsibilities      

Administer and regularly audit a multi-layered information technology security plan that can detect, contain and mitigate incidents which impair system(s) availability, data preservation or information security.  This includes, but is not limited to, authentication systems; penetration/vulnerability testing; encryption technologies; MSSP/SIEM services; data backup systems; PII, PCI, social engineering and IT vulnerability audits; and the remediation of findings that cross the threshold of acceptable risk.

Supervision of IT staff that provides day-to-day user authentication, authorization and access control. 

Serve as the College’s highest-level security officer second to the Chief Information Officer. 

Monitor the security threat environment and provide analysis on its impact to the information security management of the college.  Prepare regular IT security reports for executive review that aggregate incident metrics and illustrate risks (account compromise, MSSP alerts, MFA reports, system patching status, vulnerability remediation, O365 access alerts, semi-annual firewall reviews, etc.)

Manage a Computer Security Incident Response Team which can be quickly mobilized to mitigate information security, denial of service, virus/malware infections or similar threats. It is expected this team to include internal and external resources.

Supervise and approve information security configuration management of server builds, network appliances, cloud-based systems and other infrastructure components. 

Under the direction of the College’s General Counsel, and law enforcement officials when applicable, conduct electronic discovery and digital forensic investigations.  Reports, analysis and findings must be accurate, performed without bias and remain confidential.    

Prepare, review and approve IT security related equipment/system/software acquisition proposals.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices by attending relevant conferences, formal technical training and referencing current industry materials/publications. Work collaboratively with Executive Management, Operations/Facilities staff and Enterprise Business/Application teams

Will be required to collaborate with the vCISO/CISO, Colleges General Counsel, VP of Human Resources and law enforcement as needed or assigned.

Bachelor’s degree with specialization in Information Systems/Computer Science or Information Security required; Masters degree preferred.

Preliminary Qualifications          

 Security-related certification (GIAC, CISA, CEH, CISSP or similar) required.

Physical Demands          

 Job responsibilities require work to be performed at all Macomb campuses, necessitating inter-building/campus travel.

Work Hours M-F 8A - 5P. May be required to work occasional long and/or irregular hours which can include late night or weekend information system restoration or repair.
