Unit Description

Sodexo is currently seeking a Purchasing Specialist for Penn State Hospital Main Campus.

This is a 700-bed facility with a retail volume of 7 million plus annually. In addition, Sodexo is operating At Your Request patient meal delivery program and over 1 million in Catering volume.

Position will be responsible for procurement of food & supplies and manage receiving team. In addition, position will manage department safety program, including ensuring compliance to food safety and physical safety standards. Will also be asked to manage food services as need. 70% purchasing, 30% food / staff management.

This position will be responsible for daily ordering of all supplies within the Nutrition Services department.

  • Oversee and place daily orders (food, beverages, nutrition supplies, feeding supplies and equipment, etc.)
  • Assist with proper product placement in storeroom/coolers, and ensure proper rotation of all product
  • Manage all Floor Stock and Clinic Deliveries
  • Direct supervision of 3 staff members
  • Knowledge of HACCP programs
  • Compares accuracy of product deliveries/invoices against original orders
  • Provides input to estimate food consumption in order to procure appropriate amount of supplies
  • Probes potential problems and apprises manager of status on resolution of problems or issues, using appropriate Sodexo resource when necessary

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2 - 4 years prior experience managing in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing procurement, including purchasing, inventory, receiving and cost-rationalization
  • Able to remain calm and focused in a highly demanding environment, understands and is able to meet the operating standards and expectations
  • Focus on customer service excellence
  • Demonstrated experience providing strong leadership, including supervision, direction and training, to a diverse team of employees
  • Focus on food and physical safety and sanitation

The successful Food Service Manager will have experience and proven results in, the following areas:

  • Leadership: Ability to effectively manage and communicate with Retail and Production Staff, Key Personnel, Management Teams along with a passion and dedication to be "one of the best". Candidate must be highly engaged and extremely hands-on in day to day operations.
  • Training: Must be able to articulate, demonstrate and uphold operating standards and expectations for the frontline staff through hands on training, coaching and follow up.
  • Financial: Ability to manage and demonstrate proven results with food costs, labor and controllable expenses.

Position Summary

Responsible to place orders using a purchase ordering system. Orders products and services based on established contracts. May assist corporate procurement to define contract terms. Coordinates delivery times and works to achieve the lowest costs of materials from suppliers with consideration to quality, reliability, and urgency of need.
Key Duties
- Purchases materials and supplies based on established contracts with manufacturers and other suppliers.
- Coordinates Sodexo purchasing strategies to ensure that the Company is purchasing products/services at the most competitive prices and mark up structure, while accounting for the quality and service level required by the business line.
- Ensures product availability and quality based on account operator needs. Manages inventory to reduce waste.
- Assists with the resolution of product selection, distribution, pricing, cost control, receiving, and inventory control issues.


Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
