Department Purpose

Application Operations provides reliable, scalable, and cost-effective enterprise application hosting solutions in the cloud and in Gannett operated datacenters.

Job Purpose

DevOps Engineer at Gannett performs the mission critical role of ensuring that our multi cloud environments are monitored, performance tuned, automated, and designed to scale. The ideal candidate will be passionate about an operations role that involves deep knowledge of both the application and the product. They will also believe that automation is a key component to operating large-scale systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Infrastructure and application automation using Jenkins, Chef, Ansible, Terraform, Cloudformation, and GITHub

Multi Cloud API integrations with cloud management platforms.

Monitors performance to identify and resolve system hosting problems

Apply appropriate tools to analyze, identify, and resolve technical problems

Work closely with customers to ensure work performed meets requirements

Perform proactive compartment capacity planning

Available for after hour maintenance and escalations as needed

40% - Hosting/Customer Support

40% - Creating and managing containers

10% - Project planning and execution

10% - Documentation

Qualifications

Required Qualifications include:

4+ years of experience in a Linux systems administration

Experience with configuration management tools

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills

Preferred Qualifications include:

Linux (CentOS/RHEL) and Windows Server

Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, OpenStack

Docker and Kubernetes

GITHub or other source control tools

Terraform and Helm

Jenkins City build servers

Automation using Python and Bash

Monitoring with SumoLogic or Splunk, APM (AppDynamics/NewRelic), Em7
