Description

Lee Enterprises Design Center is looking for highly motivated, creative page designers who can bring a new dimension to our partner sites’ newspapers and other products. Candidates will have some newspaper design experience to produce daily pages in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on meeting tight deadlines. This self-starter can manage several tasks simultaneously and are experienced in information and content design, be it with news, sports or lifestyles. Candidates also must display a strong instinct for problem solving, a sense of urgency, and a passion for news. Candidates must have excellent communication skills to showcase on a daily basis with editors. Must be willing to learn advanced design concepts and practice technical skills to apply when necessary. Experience using Adobe graphic design software or equivalent is preferred. Candidates must be willing to work a varied schedule which includes night/weekend hours.

 

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Communication

  • Produce assigned pages from provided plans, budgets
    • Read and apply all budget instructions carefully
    • Ask editor or supervisor questions if a budget or communication are not clear
    • Transfer editors’ changes and corrections to pages quickly and reliably
  • Maintain design, style and product quality standards for each publication
  • Manage work and plate flow to meet assigned deadlines for multiple editions and publications
  • Communicate with teammates when assistance is necessary to meet deadline
  • Provide deadline assistance to teammates as needed
  • Provide detailed nightly shift notes
  • Thorough understanding of all tasks, processes, procedures, software, and deadlines

 

Grow design skills

  • Learn and apply advanced design techniques
  • Seek feedback from supervisors and peers
  • Willing to receive training in multiple graphic design software

 

Other duties

  • Learn and effectively follow all Design Center policies
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

 

Full remote employment considered based on experience level and an established record of high performance.
