Maps Production directly influences, supports, and designs the core services that allow Apple Maps to function as well as hundreds of other services, both internal and external. This team is responsible for delivery, tuning, troubleshooting, and crafting these services along side a focused, driven development team. We work directly with our development partners to build operable, efficient services. Your input and experience directly influence Apple's customers.

Key Qualifications

  • Linux System Administration experience. We don't care if you remember all of the switch options for a particular command, but you should know what tools exist and how to use them when fixing & designing. Perf tooling a big+
  • Coding capabilities. Understand basic algorithms, data structures, and how code uses system resources.
  • Troubleshooting skills. Navigate systems, understand network connectivity, and how to observe different levels of the OSI model.
  • Networking knowledge. The basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, along with tools to fix and identify network problems.
  • Desire to learn. As a production SRE, you will have an outstanding opportunity to diagnose, design, and implement fixes for things you have not yet learned (or need to re-learn when appropriate).
  • Autonomous. Ability to identify meaningful work and jump on it. Management will not be looking over your shoulder to ensure you are doing what you should be doing, you will be measured by the phenomenal results you will produce.

Description

Maps Production requires very hardworking individuals to maintain excellent uptime and deliver operable, reliable, efficient services to our customers. The successful candidate will work closely with a development partner to ensure those services are built with strong mentorship from SRE. You will: meet with them regularly, participate in design discussions, and carry the service to implementation in production where it will be supported by the whole team; Find opportunities to contribute to automation efforts, build and complete major projects with high value, and produce SRE tools that benefit a wider audience; Meet new teams within Apple, collaborating on various projects and products that relate to our services; Triage all kinds of new and wonderful issues in production that will be told around a campfire 10 years from now; and Find an established, welcoming team that supports each other in stressful times. Your manager will clear the road in front of you to do your best work. In short, you will find more than a job.
