Description

Typical Work Activities:     

  • General accounting responsibilities including posting, auditing, and balancing ledger and journal accounts as required by General Municipal Law and the State Education Department
  • Writes and signs all checks for disbursement of district monies upon receipt of a signed warrant, certified payroll, or as otherwise authorized
  • Handles cash, prepares bank deposits, deposits money into authorized bank accounts, reconciles accounts, and produces receipts
  • Preparation and production of monthly treasurer and budget status reports
  • Financial management of state and federal grants
  • Extra-classroom activity fund accounting serving as Central Treasurer
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Debt service payments
  • Maintains state aid schedule of payments and assists in the preparation of state aid reports
  • Responsible for capital project accounting and assisting with the filing of state forms and reports along with municipal advisors
  • Preparation of annual financial statements along with independent auditors
  • Updates and maintains fixed asset inventories
  • Safeguards the assets of the District via the use of proper internal controls
  • Designated Payroll responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of related tasks as required

 
Requirements:                        

  • Associate’s degree in business, accounting, or related field; Bachelor’s or Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with governmental accounting, preferably in a school or audit setting
  • Familiarity with the laws, regulations, procedures, and policies related to school finance
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
