Weekly Hours: 40

Role Number: 200322761

The Developer Tools team provides the tools to develop software for Apple's innovative iOS, watchOS, tvOS and macOS platforms. Because tools are our products, software engineers on our team have the unique and rewarding opportunity to apply personal experience to enhance and augment the tools they use every day. The dyld team is responsible for the technologies related to linking and loading executable files on Apple platforms. As an engineer on the team, you will engineer Apple's linker tools to ensure that programs link and launch efficiently - and directly improve the user experience for all users of practically every device Apple ships.

Key Qualifications

  • Proficient with C++ and system-level programming
  • Interpersonal and teamwork skills that demonstrate an ability to communicate with a variety of individuals
  • High attention to detail and the ability to reason about complex interactions between different components
  • Deeply passionate about developing software that runs at scale

The dyld team owns tools such as the dynamic linker, the static linker, and several others to inspect and manipulate binaries built on Apple platforms. These tools must be highly efficient, be securely coded, and thoroughly tested. As part of this team, you will collaborate with engineers across Apple to improve the CPU and memory efficiency of software across the OS. This collaboration requires excellent communication skills and an ability to discuss complex topics with widely differing backgrounds. Your engineering work will include (among others) profiling App startup times, debugging App launch behavior, and architecting and implementation solutions to improve system performance and evolve Apple's platform software capabilities. Here you'll find that we:

  • Have a peaceful work environment where you can choose when to socialize and when to close your office door and focus
  • Provide technical guidance, software architectural review, and mentorship
  • Have an encouraging and growth-focused workplace culture
  • Encourage you to use accrued vacation time and maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • Offer excellent benefits The position is based onsite at Apple's campus in Cupertino, California. International candidates are welcome to apply but will need to relocate.

    Education & Experience

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

    Additional Requirements

    • Familiarity with operating systems internals
    • Familiarity with assembly language (of some kind)
    • Experience with linkers (static or dynamic) and compilers is beneficial but is not required
