A. Primary Duties / Essential Job Functions

  1. Fire suppression/control for the protection of life and property
  2. Emergency medical activities as required for E.M.T. and Paramedics in Hamilton County, State of Ohio
  3. Rescue of endangered persons, protection of property from various perils
  4. Work in all types of weather, in hostile and dangerous environments; wearing various types of protective clothing and equipment.

  • Pull and lay fire hose
  • Deploy and work on ladders
  • Start and use power tools
  • Force entry into structures
  • Force entry through construction
  • Start IV’s
  • Endotracheally intubate
  • Select drug items
  • Calculate drug dosages
  • Advance charged fire hose lines
  • Open fire hydrants
  • Operate fire truck valves
  • Carry heavy equipment various distances
  • Read equipment gauges
  • See and read street addresses
  • Work effectively as a team member
  • Work effectively as an individual
  • Read directions, procedures, orders
  • Read and understand reference materials
  • Operate on roofs, at heights off ground
  • Operate in small, confined spaces
  • Pull, push, drag and lift heavy objects
  • Manipulate tools and equipment
  • Work in cold, hot, toxic environments
  • Wear and breathe from SCBA
  • Move patients on cot, stretcher, stair chair

B. Secondary Duties In Support Of Primary Duties

1. Filling out, entering and filing of reports (Paper and/or Electronic) such as:

  • District Fire Reports
  • District E.M.S. Reports
  • Ohio Fire Reports
  • Daily Log Sheets
  • Purchase Requests
  • Hydrant Repair Forms
  • Service Requisition Forms
  • Any other reports for the proper operation of the Fire District

2. Maintain the proper and required certifications to perform primary duties

3. Maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License

4. Occasionally supervise part-time employees

C. Other Support Duties Required To Be Performed

1. Servicing Fire Hydrants

2. Testing Fire Hose

3. Be able to make minor repairs to emergency equipment

4. Be able to inspect and keep all emergency equipment in clean working condition

5. Should be able to make at least minor repairs to station houses and other equipment

6. Be able to properly communicate with the public

7. Be willing and able to keep the station houses in a neat and clean condition

8. Attend required training sessions

9. Maintain confidentiality of information acquired during professional practice

10. Contribute to success of department: produce needed work, adhere to rules, cooperate with direction, engage in positive manner in the work environment

11. Participate in health, wellness and fitness program

D. Other Miscellaneous Duties That May Be Performed From Time To Time

1. Fire Inspections and PrePlanning

2. Fire and injury prevention activities and public relations

3. Other duties as from time to time are assigned or as may be required to meet duties of position

E. Will Be Required To Demonstrate The Following Abilities Before The End Of One Year Probation Period

1. Properly drive and operate fire district pumpers and quint.

2. Demonstrate knowledge of street locations

3. Demonstrate knowledge of fire hydrant locations

4. Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations

5. Demonstrate knowledge of standard operating procedures

6. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to operate all emergency equipment used in the Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire District.

F. Employee Should Be Able and Willing To Do The Following:

1. Reside in the State of Ohio and within Hamilton, Butler, Warren or Clermont counties or within a 33 mile radius of Station 64

2. Respond to their assigned station in case of emergency recall

3. Employee should be willing and able to work overtime if needed

4. Work on any assigned day of year

5. Maintain a positive, professional attitude

6. Work cooperatively and effectively, under direction of department officers and as part of a team

I. The Following Is A List Of Desirable Skills And Aptitudes For Employees Of The Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire District:

1. Mechanical aptitude

2. General maintenance ability

3. Ohio State Certification as a Fire Inspector

4. Ohio State Certification as a Fire Instructor

5. Familiarity with and basic use of Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet and database software

6. Familiarity with computer assisted drawing software
