4-What is a cover letter?

It is a short letter used to introduce yourself to a recruiter/company. In it you summarize your professional experience, and highlight the skills which make you an appropriate fit for the position. The cover letter is used to attract the attention of the recruiter by showing why you're an excellent candidate for a given position. It should always be short and to the point.

EXAMPLE:

Dear Recruiter:

This letter serves as a brief introduction of my professional background and interests.

For the past five years I have worked with Company X on the creative and production side of the music industry, including artist development, music engineering and studio production. I am extremely interested in combining this experience with my expertise in business to consumer sales via the internet.

I firmly believe that my education, experience and interests would provide an excellent fit for the requirements of the position that you are seeking to fill, and I am confident that I can become an important asset for your company as it attempts to leverage the internet as a sales channel for its services.

Thank you for your interest in my resume, and I am available to meet with you at your convenience to further discuss my experience and interests.

Sincerely,

Ricardo Costa

5-How many resumes can I have as a Trial Member?
Trial members are limited to one resume, but you can store an English, Spanish, and Portuguese version of that resume. Associate and Full Members are provided the opportunity to store up to three and six versions of their resumes, respectively.
(top)

6-Where do I save / add my cover letter?

Since each cover letter should be tailored to a specific position we don't have you store a copy of it in our database. When you apply for a position that accepts cover letters you will have an opportunity to paste or type a cover letter to be sent to a recruiter.

RESUME VERSIONS
8-It says I don't have a resume in the right language to apply for a job - why?
When recruiters post jobs on LatPro.com, they have to designate the languages in which they'll accept resumes. Even when a job calls for a certain language skill, it doesn't necessarily mean that the recruiter can speak that language. You can easily add another language version of your resume by visiting your account's main page, "My LatPro", and clicking on "My Resumes".

9-What is the difference between a resume and a language version?

Think of the resumes as "folders" for your language versions. As an Associate or Full member you can have multiple resumes. For example, one resume might be tailored to marketing positions and another to sales. Each of these two resumes can have 3 language versions.

Each resume can have three language versions (English / Spanish / Portuguese). When you apply to a job you will get to choose which resume, and which language to send your resume in. Each job listing will specify the languages that the recruiter is accepting resumes.

10-What kind of public headline should I put on my resume?

Your headline should be descriptive and include your functional and/or industry area of expertise in order to attract the right recruiters. Remember, this is the "title" of the resume that recruiters will see when they search our database. Also, the headline should be in the same language as the resume.

Here are some good headlines:
• Financial Sales Executive
• Regional Manager - Latin America/Caribbean
• Tri-Lingual Senior Executive - High-Growth Technology Companies

Here are some bad headlines:
• English Version
• My Resume
• Resume 1

11-Why is the system asking me for a resume if I already added it?

Two possible reasons include:
1. You are a Trial member and your resume was not saved because it exceeded the resume length limit.
2. You may not have stored a resume in the language that the recruiter has requested.

To add a new language version of your resume, please follow these instructions.

12-Why is my resume not saved? I am a Trial member.

Trial members are limited to a resume length limit of 4,000 characters. This includes characters + lines + spaces. Your resume will be saved as long as it doesn't exceed the resume length limit for Trial members.

MANAGING RESUMES

13-How can I increase the number of recruiters viewing my resume?

First, make sure you have selected to have your resume included in the database.

Then, take a look at your language specific resume title. This is what recruiters see when they do a search. Your headline should be descriptive and include your functional and/or industry area of expertise in order to attract the right recruiters.

Here are some good headlines:
• Financial Sales Executive
• Regional Manager - Latin America/Caribbean
• Tri-Lingual Senior Executive - High-Growth Technology Companies

Here are some bad headlines:
• English Version
• Juan's Resume
• Resume 1

Finally, check to make sure your profile (click on "My Profile") is accurate, paying special attention to the industry, function and work authorization sections - these are the most common parameters recruiter use to search.
