Internationally recognized experimental physicist now uses knowledge acquired in the US to guide students

I am an experimental physicist with a twenty-five-year history in acoustic cavitation and cavitation physics.

Born in Medellin, Colombia, I came to the US in 1979 to study at the University of Louisiana and then at the University of Mississippi. Under the direction of Professor Lawrence Crum, I received my doctorate in physics from the National Center for Physical Acoustics at U. of Mississippi.

In 1989, while still a graduate student at University of Mississippi, I discovered Single Bubble Sonoluminescence, creating a new field of study in physics.  My discovery and research in this area are internationally recognized, and I have published several articles on this and other related topics.

I was elected as a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) in 1996. Following a PostDoc at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, I have held research positions at the National Center for Physical Acoustics at the University of Mississippi and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

In 1999, I joined Impulse Devices, Inc. in Grass Valley, California to pioneer research into Acoustic Inertial Confinement Fusion (acoustic ICF). During my tenure as the Chief Scientist, I developed the new technology of High-Pressure Acoustic Cavitation (Extreme Cavitation). Additionally, I co-founded the Acoustic Fusion Technology Energy Consortium (AFTEC), which funded the program via a $40M contract with the US ARMY.

In 2013 I returned to my home country to found startup companies and look for investors for several high tech products, including hydrodynamic cavitation devices and nanoparticle reactors. Currently, I am teaching at the U. of San Buenaventura in the Sound Engineering program where I plan to use my experience and knowledge acquired while in the United States to guide and help my students with their careers in science and technology.
