Position Summary:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is dedicated to meeting the IT needs of UC Irvine's faculty, students, and staff. Our goal is to lead in IT services and deliver innovative solutions that support the University's research, education, and community service objectives. You'll join a small Agile team focused on developing applications to enhance UC Irvine's research profile, streamline HR and compliance tasks, and support teaching and learning across the campus. While our team primarily uses Typescript, Next.js, and Azure OpenAI, we are open to adopting other technologies as needed based on the changing AI landscape.
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Executive Application Support, the AI Software Engineer applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Develops and maintains web and data applications, integrated with generative AI, that address the varied needs of a university setting. Resolves a wide range of issues including designing, coding, and implementing web applications that integrate with external AI services for natural language processing, machine learning, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods, and techniques to create user-friendly and secure applications tailored for academic staff, administrative staff, and students.
