POSITION TITLE: Social Ministries Manager

STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must:



  • Possess a positive Christian experience and be willing and able to share it.
  • Have an understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, programs, and practices.
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required. Volunteer or work experience with a non-profit.
  • Ability to understand and comply with The Salvation Army policies in regard to disbursement of funding
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to represent The Salvation Army throughout the community
  • Have the ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Have the ability to work independently or with other staff members.
  • Collaborate and interact with other social service agencies.
  • Have the ability to interact with a diverse client population.
  • Have experience working with volunteers and employees in both team and supervisory roles.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Have the ability to work under the restrictions of a monthly budget, as well as prepare an annual budget under the guidance of the Corps Officers.



SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Social Ministries Manager will oversee the daily social service programs of The Salvation Army of Yakima Valley, and make it their mission to treat each program as a ministry. This position will look for new and innovative ways to link the family services provided by The Salvation Army to the current ministries provided. They will also develop new ministry opportunities through the social service programs, providing opportunities for volunteers and church members to serve the communities of Yakima County.

The Social Ministries Manager will be responsible for spearheading Pathway of Hope in Yakima, supporting families in the most desperate situations with a year of counseling, coaching, and community to empower them and move them from desperation to hope and security.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Duties:



  • Schedule and conduct weekly social ministry team meetings providing meeting dates to Corp Officer.
  • Oversee daily programs at the Family Services Office and Food Bank, supervising employees, and volunteers.
  • Assist in training volunteers for each social ministry program.
  • Keep open communication with Corps Officer regarding Social Ministry schedule, programs, trainings, and events.
  • Keep and report statistics for each individual social ministry program.
  • Manage contracts, grant reporting requirements, reimbursements, and other financial logistics of the Social Ministries Department
  • Order food for the Food Pantry. Funding sources EFAP, FEMA. (OIC/TFAP, Moses Lake, 2nd harvest- in kind product).
  • Ensure Social Ministry offices, meeting spaces, storage, and food warehouse, are kept clean & organized, welcoming, and safe. Report any damages or issues to Corps Officer as soon as possible.
  • Submit payroll changes or issues to Corps Officers.


Ministry Development:



  • Ensure all programs are in line with the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Create partnerships with local churches and ministries, serving in The Salvation Army's social services and providing a ministry outlet for local believers.
  • Work with Corps Officers to connect soldiers and corps members to ministry opportunities with social services.
  • Stay up to date with current ministries offered at the corps and local churches, posting meetings and opportunities for clients (as allowed by grant rules and regulations).
  • Create ministry opportunities in the social ministry office for clients.
  • Bridge clients to church opportunities.


Pathway of Hope:



  • Create a comprehensive resource guide for Yakima County to be used with POH clients.
  • Maintain a caseload of 5 families/clients: meeting on a weekly basis and keeping detailed notes for each case.
  • Develop ways to invite volunteers into the Pathway of Hope program (i.e.: social work students, internships, counseling, etc.)
  • Attend Divisional, Territorial, and National Pathway of Hope and/or Social Service Conferences.


Seasonal Responsibilities:



  • Coordinate and facilitate Angel Tree Food Boxes (purchasing, prepping, and distribution)
  • Assist in referring families for Adopt A Family to Corps Officer.
  • Assist with seasonal assistance events and programs.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  • Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer
  • Ability to understand written information
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle



Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:



  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.


Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
